Brief

The SME Association of Zimbabwe is proud to be hosting the second edition of its prestigious awards ceremony, known as the "Local Legends Awards", in recognition of the heroic efforts made by entrepreneurs in forming and growing their businesses. Awards are given to members who would have excelled in specific aspects of growing their businesses. The key award categories are:

This year and going forward, we will be hosting this event in the last week of November/first week of December, and this year it will be on Friday the 26th of November 2021. This year's awards ceremony will be held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Harare.

Our proposed guest of honour is the Minister of Women Affairs, Community and Small and Medium Enterprises Development, Honourable Sithembiso Nyoni, and accompanying her will be the top hierarchy in the Ministry, and specifically the SMEs department.

Event profile

We will be marketing the event throughout all mainstream media, which includes newspapers, television, radio, social media and also internet-based media houses. The event will be marketed as a national event, and will incorporate our members from across the country. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, attendance at the actual ceremony will be limited to the permitted 100 guests. The event will however be livestreamed across all social media platforms to enable virtual participation by all members and interested participants. Main sponsorship categories

We have two main sponsorship categories, which are the Legendary Partner category, as well as the Diamond Sponsorship category. The Legendary Sponsorship category will entitle the sponsor to overall ownership of the year's Awards ceremony. This comes with having the year's award rebranded to include your organisation's name, inclusion in all advertising material and post-event coverage, as well as brand presence during the actual event itself. We will work with you extensively to develop the concept for the year’s awards.

Should we not have a Legendary Sponsor, we will look at getting two or three Diamond Sponsors, who will co-sponsor the event. Each Diamond Sponsor will avail sponsorship to the tune of US$5 000. Category Awards Sponsorship

One of the key features of the event is the category sponsorship opportunities. Our award categories are based on specific areas that SMEs need to work on in order to grow their businesses. We have, for example, awards for improvement in compliance, record-keeping, staff welfare, product quality, internal controls, marketing and branding, self-improvement, risk management practices e.t.c

You can therefore pick a category award that is relevant to your line of business. A bank may therefore choose to award the best in compliance (opening bank accounts, registering with tax authorities, NSSA and other relevant authorities/agencies), an insurance company may choose to award the best risk management practices, an accounting firm may choose the internal controls award e.t.c

Category award sponsorship ranges from US$300 to US$500 per category, and it comes with benefits as shown in the Sponsorship Packages attachment. There will be a winner, and two runners up per category. You can click here to download a copy of the different categories.

Award adjudication

Award adjudication will be a transparent process involving the Association as well as the award sponsor. Our process of assisting members to grow their businesses entails coming up with an Action Plan, which members are then expected to execute over the course of the year. We will therefore shortlist members that would have carried out particular steps that are related to the award category, from which a winner and runners up will be chosen.

The award sponsor will then be involved, together with the Association, in selecting the final winner as well as the runners up. The award sponsor will present their award on the day.

If you are coming in as Legendary Partner or Diamond Sponsor, we will need to agree on specific details, including payment modalities. Most payments for these categories will be done to specific third-party service providers, according to their requirements.

Category award sponsorship will be given on a first-come-first-served basis.

Conclusion

This year’s Local Legends awards ceremony will indeed be legendary, as we can only improve on the last event, based on our learning experience.
