As part of our mandate of growing start-ups, small and medium-sized enterprises to grow into large corporations, we recognise the need for Zimbabwean enterprises to think beyond our own borders, especially when considering their potential markets. Zimbabwe is a small country with a population of only 15 million people, therefore relying on our local market alone restricts business growth for enterprises. The increasing foreign currency shortages in the country have also necessitated that all businesses look for ways of generating foreign currency, as well as even diversify operations to minimise country risk.
We have therefore partnered with ZimTrade, as well as the Standards Association of Zimbabwe to work on an Export Development Program which is meant to assist our MSMEs to refocus their business with an aim to becoming at least regional, and hopefully international players. Penetrating these markets requires in-depth knowledge of requirements, as well as capacity-building to be able to meet customer expectations.
